The tough light-loader - Volvo 445 celebrates its 60th anniversary
In 2009, the light delivery vehicle Volvo 445 which brought
about the Duett and by that started Volvo's tradition of estate cars
turns 60. This is what happened.
Shortly after Volvo started making vehicles in 1927, they
began to deliver bare chassis for accommodating different bodies
according to customers needs The big Volvos of the 1930s were delivered
from Volvo fitted with front wings, bonnet, sills and rudimentary
A-pillars in order to be transformed into vans or pickup trucks by the
many coachbuilders in Sweden at the time. Due to the fact that the
larger Volvo cars were still built on separate frames after Word War
II, these bare chassis versions were still offered in the sales
catalogue throughout the 1950s but they were large so the need for a
smaller and lighter chassis version became evident.

Volvo Cars upgraded state-of-the-art emissions laboratory - for reducing fuel consumption and CO2 emissions
One of the world's most advanced emission laboratories is
Volvo Cars' important tool in the quest for lower fuel consumption and
reduced carbon dioxide emissions.
The upgraded emissions laboratory was used when developing all
DRIVe models - updated engine mapping and rolling resistance were
tested and confirmed.
The emission laboratory is used for development testing in all
stages of the vehicle development process, when for instance the engine
parameters have been optimised for reducing emissions. The result is
verified by performing a test in the emission laboratory, and this
process is repeated until optimal results are obtained.

Ecoboost Technology: Direct Injection is Cool
Direct fuel injection is one of the key enabling
technologies of Ford’s EcoBoost strategy to deliver
advancements in fuel economy of up to 20 percent without sacrificing
the performance customers want. Paired with turbocharging, direct
injection gives the new 3.5-liter EcoBoost engine in the Lincoln MKS
the power and torque of a 4.6-liter V-8 with the fuel economy of a V-6.
Direct injection uses high-pressure fuel injectors to spray
a fine mist of fuel directly into each cylinder. This precisely
controlled fuel delivery improves the engine’s transient
response, contributes to improved fuel economy and enables improved
emissions, particularly at cold start. The EcoBoost engine reduces CO2
emissions by 15 percent

When Less is More: The Storied Success of Audi’s 2.0 TFSI I-4 Engine
The recognition validated a core strategy at Audi: That highly
efficient engines can handily deliver the personality that
discriminating premium luxury car buyers expect when they get behind
the steering wheel. Central to this philosophy is an engineering
orientation rooted in maximizing engine performance - whether that
means fuel consumption or power and sportiness. Over the past year, the U.S. luxury car market has started to break
toward Audi's position on engine technology. As long as fuel prices
remain volatile, luxury buyers are putting efficiency at the top of
their shopping priority lists.

LED daytime running lights
Efficient, reliable, one-of-a-kind.
Audi was the first automobile manufacturer to recognize the potential
of revolutionary LED lighting technology and then incorporate it during
development of its vehicles. The brand with the four rings has since
acquired a technological edge putting it years ahead of the
competition, and is a key driver of this innovation. Crucial for the
exterior design: Not only during the day but also at night, all Audi
models are recognizable at a glance thanks to LED daytime running
lights. And each Audi has its own personality: The sweeping light strip
on the Audi A4 exudes elegance. And that of the Audi R8 radiates
strength and dominance: Its headlights were designed and constructed
entirely on the basis of energy-efficient and environmentally friendly
LED technology.
